Time
Time and our relationship to it is an interesting thing... Do you race against time? Is there never enough time? Do you kill time or waste time? Do you try to manage time?
When I was a kid it seemed like there was plenty of time for everything. In fact sometimes it felt like time wouldn't pass fast enough! Waiting for christmas to come or my birthday seemed to take forever. Summer seemed to stretch on and I couldn't wait to start school so I could see all my friends. I was always pushing to be older, do more, and have more freedom and responsibility. When would it be my time to be in charge?
Now, I'm in charge. I have two kids in grade school and it feels like time is flying by! Wasn't in just the other day that they were in diapers? Every time I turn around they have grow out of another set of clothes, their shoes, and their bikes. There is an ever growing list of todo's that runs from one day to the next and I wonder, Where does the time go?
Time effects us in so many ways. When we feel we don't have enough time, it can cause stress and anxiety. When it feels like time is passing to slowly we can become bored or frustrated.
The reality is that time is always the same. It is how we feel about it and how we spend it that changes. So, how do you want to spend your time? How do you want to look at time in your life?
I want to see time as a gift of unknown proportions. Each day, each moment has value, so I will find the joy in it. When life feels overwhelming and stressful, that is the precise moment to take the "time" that I don't feel I have, to look at all the things in my life that I am thankful for. I want to be present in the moment and enjoy the time.
Time gives perspective. Today will not look the same tomorrow. Enjoy today... enjoy this moment... enjoy your time!
